Barossa Fine Dining

Recent Groupon purchase has brought me to yet another new found land, which I had never step foot into previously. This time is Barossa Fine Dining.

Located inside of the serene and scenic Royal Perak Golf Club, in the heart of Ipoh city.

Elegant indoor dining atmosphere with scenic view of the golf course are for diners to enjoy.

Front row seats on the sushi bar to enjoy the art of sushi-making by the sushi chefs.

Today's Special menu for fresh nigiri sushi (hand-formed sushi).

A wide range of Japanese wine available for selection, with a handful of them on display cabinet.

Barossa's menu consists of authentic Japanese and Thai cuisine. Barossa Fine Dining does not serve pork but offers alcohol on its menu.

For those who like to preview Barossa's menu, please click here for any further details and pricing on the menu.

The first plate to arrive is Kyuri Maki (RM18) literally means cucumber roll, which comes with rolls of 6. The sushi is rolled with peeled cucumber, surrounding fried fillings and topped with fish roes. Juicy on the outside, crunchy on the inside. This is one of the best Kyuri Maki I've ever eaten though.

The second plate is Spider Maki (RM26), which is made of fried soft shell crab, cucumber, avocado, lettuce, mayonnaise rolled together with nori and rice and topped with roes.

Next dish to be served is Unagi Kabayaki set (RM38), which comes with grilled eel, fried potato, chawanmushi, miso soup, peach pudding and a bowl of rice.

Here comes the Salmon Carnival set which was purchased over Groupon for RM45 instead of RM102.50 which includes 4 salmon sashimi (RM18.40), 2 salmon tanuki temaki (RM20), salmon teppanyaki (RM23), 6 salmon maki (RM9), 4 salmon nigiri sushi (RM18). The portion of the platter is adequate for sharing of 2 persons and the salmons taste fresh, which justifies the price of the deal. Please click here for full details of the Groupon deal.

The overall dining experience is enjoyable, with peaceful dining atmosphere and warm-welcoming staffs. However, the most important of all is the standard of the food provided which make the visit worthwhile. Please visit Groupon page and Barossa's facebook page for any upcoming promotions

A Lai I Japanese Restaurant (新井日本料理)

Japanese restaurants are been mushrooming in Ipoh in recent years. One of the highly regarded restaurant in town is A Lai I, which has been in business for 5 years.

1). Situated same row as Sushi East and Friend's Cafe near Ipoh Garden East.

2). The shop lot with a lot of wooden design, can accommodate more than 30 Japanese food cravers.

3). Our meal starts with sushi of course. Unagi Maki, grilled eel rolled with sesame-filled Japanese rice. The roll is just right for a bite's size and it tasted good!

4). Let's try the teppanyaki, where a salmon fillet and beef cutlets are pan-fried together with other vegetables. It is filled with buttery scent and literally melted in your mouth..

5). A Japanese meal is never complete without a bento, which consists of unagi, rice, veggies, tempura, sashimi, fruits, Miso soup, Chawamushi and tempura sauce.

6). Mixed tempura with two Ebiten and veggies, deep-fried until they are so crunchy, but tastes even better when dipped with the tempura sauce.

7). Grilled Unagi comes out the tastiest of all of course!

8). A Lai I has been rated as one of the best Japanese restaurant in Ipoh by numerous Ipoh Mali and wthout doubt it also has set a standard for Japanese cuisine, in Ipoh at least.

Kintoki Japanese Restaurant (金时日本料理)

There is a Japanese Restaurant in my neighbourhood, which has opened a few years back but I haven't got the chance to taste its culinary. As a Japanese food craver, I finally took up the courage to try out the one and only.

1). Situated at the side of Jalan Kledang Utara, en route to Ipoh-Lumut Expressway.

2). The restaurant is not too spacious, can accommodate 20 odds customers with their cubicles. The cashier counter is decorated in Japanese style.

3). How about a Ebiten Temaki for starter? Wrapped with Japanese rice, Japanese cucumbers and a big hot prawn tempura!

4). Beef Teriyaki, where cutlet of beef is dipped with sweet soy sauce, I really liked it although the portion is not very filling..

5). Sushi Nigiri? Nah.. just a plate of sushi set lunch. Plain and simple, nothing significant though..

6). A Unagi Bento, this looks ordinary but it tasted above average with the ingredients so fresh. The set lunch comes with unagi, Japanese rice, egg slice, carrots, turnips, vegie, Miso soup and jelly for dessert.

7). The highlight of the meal is of course Unagi and nothing else!! Grilled eels dipped with sweet soy sauce, just simply make my day!!

Luckily all the sushi and bento rice are made from Japanese rice, unlike some of the them cheating their customers with some cheap-skate local breed. Lastly, the set lunches are quite affordable and worth the try!
