Shi Fang Zai Restaurant (十方斋)

Being one of the renown restaurant among vegetarians and Buddhist-alike, Shi Fang Zai Restaurant has been rewarded with their effort in running the vegetarian delicacies for the past six years, starting from a single shop, extended currently to two shop lots. Me and my family are not the biggest fans of vegetarian food, not to mention trying one. But finally courage comes looking for us and we decided to give it a shoot for once in our lives.

). Situated at the side of Jalan Kledang Utara, en route to Ipoh-Lumut Expressway.

). The first dish, Five Happiness (五福临门) arrives rather fast, on a weekday anyway. Shocked by the amount of veggies? But the fried quill eggs are worth mentioning..

). The second is Vegetarian Curry Mutton. No offense to fellow vegetarians, but only the name resembles the meat counterpart, the taste says otherwise. The gravy is very complimenting with rice!

). The third dish is a charm, the Auspicious Three Flavoured Fish (缘定三生), I must say this is an eye opener, never knew a vegetarian dish could be so... lost for words.... In short, marvelous!

). The high of the dinner comes from the Peking sauce Crispy Chicken (京都鸡), it tasted really mimics the original one, I'm really impressed! Can't help myself but tucked in one after another until the plate's empty!

). The fifth dish, Dong Po Meat (东坡肉) originated from the favourite stir-fried pork of a Song Dynasty writer, Su Dong Po (苏东坡), although I don't see nor taste any resemblance with the original one.

). The next anticipated dish is the Braised Abalone with Mushroom (斋聚一堂),where abalone, mushroom, abalone mushroom, enoki mushroom and chinese flowering cabbage and braised together. Hardly found any abalone though, wondering is there any..

). The seventh dish named Golden Treasure Combination (金玉满堂), where deep-fried yam ring is filled with cauliflower, capsicum and cashew nuts after stir-fried with dry chillis. Too bad there's nothing to be found underneath the treasure and the yam ring wasn't the as tasty as expected.

). The dessert of the night, Chinese Pancakes (平步青云), is actually 锅饼 and is finally served after waited for ages but it came out cold to our disappointment.. The best out there is still Public Restaurant ones.

). There's more than enough surprise for the night and our first vegetarian outing went out great though not perfect. Ought to try out the rest of the menu, when the courage comes once in a blue moon. A piece of advice for you adventure-seekers out there, better get your table reserved especially on the 1st and 15th day of the Lunar month calendar, where vegetarians over-ruled the meat hunter.
