Falim Laksa (华林市玉姐叻沙)

One of Ipoh's best kept secret, a famous laksa stall in Falim named as "华林市玉姐叻沙”, selling laksa, a sour fish-based soup, also known as "asam laksa". However, the laksa style is Penang-oriented and not the curry laksa that our Southern counterparts are familiar with.

1). This laksa stall opens only on Sunday afternoons, starting 11.30am until finished, usually before 4pm.

2). The laksa stall is located at Jalan Lahat, Falim, opposite the famous "Falim House", and situated in front of a corner shop, same row as Sun Kim Aik Dim Sum restaurant.

3). Each bowl of laksa is priced at RM3.50, extra noodles can be added at the cost of RM0.50. Upon ordering your laksa, you also can self-pick a couple of fried stuffs complimenting the saliva-dripping laksa.

4). It is recommended to come here as early birds, as there are limited tables and chairs for laksa-lovers to enjoy their gourmet, however it's on a corner shop corridor 'not very pleasant to the eye' unfortunately. Beware of "extra toppings" from above..

5). You can sip on your drink while waiting for your laksa Only 北紫草凉水, a type of leong shui is available here though, for RM1.20. However it is served in front of your nose within minutes of ordering, prompt and hot!

6). A variety of fried stuffs are available for selection, namely fried tofu strip (炸腐竹),fried yam bean (炸沙葛),fried fishball (炸鱼旦), for 50 cents each.

7). The main ingredients for asam laksa include shredded fish, normally kembung fish or mackerel, and finely sliced vegetables including cucumber, onions, red chillies, pineapple, lettuce, mint, and ginger buds. Asam laksa is normally served with either rice noodles (vermicelli) and topped off with  prawn/shrimp paste.

8).  The laksa is ready to served after mixing the shrimp paste with laksa soup. You can taste a variety of flavours from laksa, sweet and sour, also saliva and sweat!

This is the place where I usually have my lunch on Sunday and it has become a routine ever since I first taste  of it during my school days. Although it is not on par with the ones from our Penang counterpart, I reckon that this Falim Laksa is one of the best in Ipoh!
