Fried Porridge at Serdang (易记炒粥)

A few years back, I was introduced to this average-looking restaurant, secluded in a place out of nowhere., by a friend of mine, when he invited us to visit his hometown in Selama. Ever since then, I have came back over and over again, whenever I had the chance to pass by Selama. What kind of magic it held to make me come back for more?!

). Situated at Serdang, Kedah (opposite of Hong Leong Bank), where there is a very spacious empty ground for car park.

). Better get there as early birds, otherwise you are left with nothing, especially on weekends. Thus, reserve your table first before you embark your journey all the way here.

). The famous gourmet has attracted food reviewers from all over the nation, including our favourite TV show, axian (阿贤人情味).

). A must-ordered dish whenever you dine in is their signatured Fried Porridge(炒粥), cooked with various ingredients such as over-night porridge, minced pork, prawns, cuttlefish, black soy sauce and topped with spring onions, voila! The portion of the porridge can be adjusted. The fragrance of the porridge just makes you even hungrier and can finish up a bowl or two in no time!

). Another signatured dish on their menu is the Mango Salad(芒果沙拉), where sliced mango mixed together with fried anchovies, onions and most important, chilli padi. This sour little appetizing dish just makes you crave for more.

). One of the most prefered dish is Sweet and Sour Cockles 抄蚶. This is a must-order for those cockle lovers. I always enjoyed the sweet and sour taste, it just makes you hungry for more.

). Another specialty recommended is the Stirred Fried Cuttlefish with Dried Chillis (宫保鱿鱼). The chillis make it tasted spicy yet the cuttlefish are so crunchy, makes you wanna chew in more and more with every bite.

). The wonderful meal has to be accompanied by a beer or two. A bottle of Heineken 750ml cost you RM15.

). All the dishes are emptied within minutes after they are served. Needless to say, the food is really delicious and something out of ordinary (similar with Thai food, I guess). All the dishes cost under RM50, it's really a steal and I'd definitely come back for more!
