Sun Fong Bak Kut Teh (新峰肉骨茶)

I have spend my fair share of time in food hunting at Kuala Lumpur during my studying days in the capitol city. Eating out has became the most interesting and exciting activities among us. One of the most sought after food is Bak Kut Teh  (肉骨茶), also known as muk koot tea or pork rib tea.

1). One of the famous bak kut teh restaurant in downtown KL, has been operating since 1960s and is already a popular tourist attraction. Sadly, the food is on the pricey side from what it offers.

2). Sun Fong offers a wide variety on the menu available for selections, which include assam fish, steamed fish, fried glass noodles and braised pork trotters.

3). One of the best side dish complimenting a meal of Bak Kut Teh is the Chinese cruller (油炸鬼).

4). A bowl of Bak Kut Tea consists of a few pieces of pork ribs, pork meat, pork intestines, pork belly, pork ankles, mushrooms, vegetables and bean curd cooked in a broth made of various types of herbs and spices.

5). One of my favourite part of meat is the pork belly (五花腩). You also can customize your very own bowl of Bak Kut Tea by adding all sorts of ingredients available. However you have to order precisely your desired ingredients, otherwise you might end up with a standard bowl of Bak Kut Teh.

6). One of their specialty available for order is the yam rice a.k.a. taro rice or 芋头饭. It is something I have been longing for some time since I last tasted it in Butterworth, Penang.

7). I do eat my veggies, you know. The lettuce, ditched in sesame oil topped with fried crispy garlic is everybody's favorites and easily available at any restaurant.
